Level 4
Sharks in our Level 4 practice group are our expert competitive swimmers. As such, along with meeting level 3 requirements, candidates for level 4 must be able to:
- Swim at least 200 yards of legal, race quality freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly without stopping and within a specified time limit
- Perform all basic drills instructed at Sharks with consistency and no need for reminders or redirections
- Perform appropriate relay transfers
Level 4 practices from 6:50pm - 8:40pm Monday through Friday in lanes 4, 5, and 6 at the High School of Science and Technology during the regular season. Pre-practice dynamic stretching and post-practice mobility stretching are built into this practice time. We recommend that swimmers in level 4 attend practice 5 times weekly.
Objectives for Level 4 swimmers during practice:
- Continue to develop racing technique and speed in freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly
- Extend the distance and speed of their underwaters on starts and turns
- Complete high quality flat starts and relay transfers from the blocksĀ
- Complete high quality turns and transfers in all four racing strokes and the individual medley
- Build speed and stamina by gradually increasing yardage, decreasing rest times, and applying appropriate effort levels during practice
- Continue to develop swimming etiquette during practices
- Independently develop and apply cohesive, logical, and adaptive plans to set and achieve practice and meet goals
- Continue to develop from mistakes, failures, and setbacks
